Identify your resources

We understand and appreciate that teachers are busy and resources sometimes are hard to find,  By resources we mean TIME, PEOPLE, FACILITIES and BUDGET.

Time

To really see the impact of this type of project, it needs to be running for a minimum of 6 weeks, so give yourself plenty of time for both the planning and delivery of activity phases. Consider the following:

  • How many weeks will you be able to run your project for?
  • Will you be running your project in or out of curriculum time?
  • How many hours can you allocate for this each week?
  • Is there a particular time in the day that's best for either the young people or the staff involved?

People

Involving other staff, parents, community sports coaches or older students to support you is an obvious and important option.  Consider:

  • Working on the planning phase together. People like to be involved right from the beginning.
  • Sharing the actual delivery of the project between a group of you, based on your relevant skills and experiences.

Facilities and Equipment

Think about the facilities and equipment you have access to in your school:

  • Which of these could be used to provide a different challenge.

What about facilities outside school?

  • Could your activities take place off school site at a local sports club or other local school or university for example?
  • Are there any different activities and sports available in your local area?
  • Which of these offer young people a chance to continue with once the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative is finished?
  • Do the various opening times match with your schedule?
  • Will you have access to school transport?

Your Budget

Successful Sky Sports Living for Sport initiatives have been run with very little financial input, so don't worry if funds are limited.  Remember:

  • Use the support from your senior management team to identify potential school funding that could be specifically allocated to support your group of young people.
  • A strong plan involving local groups or agencies may open the doors to some local funding.
  • Ask your Partnership Development Manger or local education authority to support you in identifying local funding opportunities.
