Agree activities and student goals

You have now formed your group and now's the time to get the young peoples' input.  Here are some discussion points to get your group started:

  • Find out what sports the group like and why - the why is often quite interesting!
  • Does the group feel a number of different mixed activities would be better than concentrating on just one?
  • Think about non-traditional activities that could engage a wider group of students, activities that perhaps very few have ever tried before, this does help create a level playing field within the group.

What commitments are the group going to make?

Several schools have successfully used an informal contract which all the group signed after getting everyone's input.  This can also work for students individually, focussing more on personal targets and goals rather than group behaviour.  Commitments may be private or shared with the group, depending upon how you want to run your project.

Keep in mind your school's original commitments and goals when deciding on activities.  Some might match the aims better than others and you will of course need to be mindful of resource implications.

Need more inspiration

If you need some inspiration check out what other schools have been up to in our case study section as many schools will agree, securing 'buy in' from your students will be critical in achieving success!
