Run your school's sports event

You and your students will have been working really hard and by this stage will be noticing some real impact and change within the group - its fantastic to see!

Building skills and confidence

Throughout the activities you will have been building the skills and confidence of the young people within your group so they can plan, organise and run a sports related event for other people, with your support.

As with the activities, it is important that you and your group choose what kind of sports event you want to tackle.

Questions your group will need to ask themselves:

  • Who will the event be for: a peer group, a younger year group within school, or a primary school?
  • When is the best time for it to take place?
  • Where will the event take place?
  • Who will be invited to attend e.g. could the Head Teacher or senior staff be involved?
  • How will the event be promoted, e.g. posters, websites, flyers?
  • How will the event be profiled - could you invite the local press down could other students within school take some pictures and upload them for the school newsletter?

This is a real opportunity for the different skills within the group to be utilised and made the most of.

Alternatively, the event can provide a challenge for the students to take on responsibilities that they may not, at first, feel totally comfortable with but which could bring out the best in them.

Always remember the reasons you had from the start for selecting these particular youngsters and ensure that yours and the group's expectations are stretching but realistic!
