Find out what it's all about

Hi and welcome to Sky Sports Living for Sport.

In this short clip I'm going to take you through a quick overview :

  • What this free initiative is about and how it works
  • How it can benefit both your school and your young people
  • And lastly how simple it is to get involved

What is Sky Sports Living for Sport and how does it work?

This flexible programme aims to support you as teachers to work with young people in your school between the ages of 11 and 16 who may be finding school life difficult for one reason or another.

It can be used in different ways, perhaps to help your school meet behaviour improvement targets, or to support attendance strategies.

Every young person is different and there may be several ways to run a successful project.  The real benefit of this project is that it is completely flexible; you and your students are in charge, we simply offer you support and incentives along the way.

The programme is simple.  It's about using sport as a starting point to motivate and inspire young people back into school life.

We've broken it down into four steps

  1. Registering your school and identifying your students
  2. Delivering a planned programme of sports activities
  3. Young people planning and organizing an event
  4. Lastly but very importantly celebrating the achievement of your young people - together!

Athlete Mentor visits

A team of world class athletes are visiting Sky Sports Living for Sport groups across the country to motivate and engage young people. With a host of Olympic, Paralympic, World and Commonwealth medals between them, the Athlete Mentors bring the excitement of their sporting successes to the classroom.

Each Athlete Mentor has been selected for their ability to engage with young people through their own contrasting stories of success and struggle. They highlight the challenges they had to overcome including bullying, dyslexia, exclusion and living with a disability.

The Athlete Mentors will build on the great work already being done by your school through Sky Sport Living for Sport, reinforcing the messages you are already delivering and adding value to your programme.
