Katy Storie

-Rugby Union-

Throughout primary and junior school Katy was always embarrassed by her size and strength. She struggled with her body image and spent years trying to fit in by being like all the other girls at school.

But at the age of 14, Katy’s mum saw an advert in the local paper for a female weightlifter to represent Sutton in the London Youth Games and thought Katy would be perfect for the job! From the moment she set foot in the gym, Katy finally realised that there was a reason that she was built differently from most other girls. Her confidence soared and she moved quickly into the Great Britain junior and senior squads, competing for three years at that level.

In her first year at Newcastle University, Katy was introduced to rugby and as soon as she had the ball in her hands she was hooked.

Eleven years later and Katy has captained the England ‘A’ team, played 24 times for the senior England team, winning a record four consecutive 6 Nations titles, 3 European Championships and in 2006 narrowly losing in the World Cup final to New Zealand’s Black Ferns.

Katy has her sights firmly set on the 2010 Rugby World Cup in London where she is determined that England will become World Champions at last.
