Steve Frew

-Gymnastics-

In July 2002, at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, Steve Frew won the first Gymnastics Gold Medal for Scotland in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Steve won Gold in the men’s Rings event.

This was the highlight of an International Career, spanning 23 years, representing Great Britain at 2 World Championships, and competing for Scotland at 5 Commonwealth Games.

Steve’s Journey to Commonwealth Gold had many obstacles along the way. Steve was small for his age, and being from a mixed-race background, fitting in at school in Scotland, was not always easy for him. At the age of 14, Steve was the only Scottish gymnast in the Great Britain team, and progression through the ranks was challenging. It took Steve 23 years, and 4 Games, to finally fulfil his childhood dream, of winning a Commonwealth Games Gold medal.
