Pupils from Enfield Grammar School in north London have played host to British sprinter and 2008 Olympic 100m Finalist Jeanette Kwakye, and also Sky Sports football presenter Ben Shephard on Wednesday, who both visited the school as part of its Sky Sports Living for Sport project.

The pupils involved in the Sky Sports project shared the activities they have completed, the skills they have learnt and their accomplishments on and off the playing field with Jeanette and Ben when they visited their school.

Jeanette Kwakye also discussed with the group the benefits that sport has had on the pupils’ school lives and drew on her own experiences of triumph over adversity and the life lessons learned through sport to motivate the pupils to continue to improve their lives through sport and be the best they can be.

Lead teacher Mark Alder at Enfield Grammar School comments: “Jeanette’s visit was an inspiring reward for our pupils who have shown great commitment and dedication to their Sky Sports Living for Sport project. The students loved hearing Jeanette’s story, and meeting Ben, as well as sharing their experiences of their project with them both.”

“Most importantly, our young people have learned first-hand that sport can teach them so much. Whether it is the social skills needed to be a team player or the focus and determination required to do a job well, Sky Sports Living for Sport is helping them to learn important life lessons.”

Ben Shephard comments: “I came away from Enfield Grammar School feeling incredibly inspired by the commitment of the young people I met. Hearing how the pupils are putting their new skills and lessons they have learned into practice is a fantastic example of how sport has the power to change lives.”
