Rugby League legend Kevin Sinfield pays a visit to Sky Skills Studio
- Thu 24th Jan '13
Students of St Mary Magdalen’s School, London, recently found themselves in the presence of a rugby legend as they took part in a Sky Skills Studio workshop.
Kevin Sinfield, recognised as the best rugby league player in the world after becoming the fourth Englishman to win the Golden Boot award, dropped by the Sky Skills Studio to speak to pupils about his sporting career.
The Leeds Rhinos and England captain shared with pupils the challenges he faced at 16, confronting a dilemma that so many athletes experience in becoming a professional athlete or continuing his education. Kevin told the children “it was my parents who told me to carry on with my education.”
Reflecting on his sporting career, Kevin highlighted that without continuing in education he wouldn’t have been as grounded and focused enough to become the successful athlete he is today.
One of the teachers from the school told us it was inspirational to hear about Kevin’s commitment to his education. “It’s important for the children to see someone maintain an interest in education throughout their career, leaving them with something to fall back on.”
Kevin Sinfield’s will be playing for Leeds Rhinos as they launch their Super League title defense against Hull FC on Sky Sports 1 HD, Friday 1 February at 7pm.
